  3.                      The OS/2 Client For The Internet Go Server
  4.                      ------------------------------------------

  9. The OS2IGC program is an OS/2 Warp Workplace Shell object that supplies a
  10. graphical user interface while connected to the Internet Go Server.
  11.

  13. System Requirements:
  14. --------------------
  15.  
  16.     OS/2 Warp - OS2IGC has been tested on the following versions:
  17.  
  18.          * OS/2 Warp Version 3
  19.          * OS/2 Warp Version 3 With Windows
  20.          * OS/2 Warp Connect With Windows
  21.  
  22.     TCP/IP connection to the Internet - OS2IGC has been tested with the
  23.     following connections:
  24.  
  25.          * The OS/2 Warp Internet Connection - dialed in to Advantis
  26.            as the service provider
  27.          * The OS/2 Warp Internet Connection - dialed in to another
  28.            service provider (Nep-Link)
  29.          * Direct token-ring connection to a network that is connected
  30.            to the Internet through a firewall - using IBM TCP/IP 2.0
  31.  
  32. OS2IGC will NOT work on any version of OS/2 prior to OS/2 Warp.
  33.  
  34. OS2IGC requires an existing TCP/IP connection to the Internet when you
  35. open the object.  This means that you have to establish your SLIP or PPP
  36. connection first, then double-click on the OS2IGC icon to conect to
  37. the Internet Go Server.
  38.  
  39. OS2IGC was developed for use on the Internet Go Server.
  40.  
  41. I have also done minimal testing on the No Name Go Server.  It
  42. appears to work, but I have not done extensive testing so I do not
  43. know if there are any incompatibilites with this server.
  44.  
  45. OS2IGC should also work with any other Go Server that presents the
  46. same client interface as the Internet Go Server.
  47.

  49. Installation:
  50. -------------
  51.  
  52. 1.  Open an OS/2 windowed or full-screen command prompt.
  53. 2.  Make the directory containing the OS2IGCnn.ZIP file the
  54.     current directory.
  55. 3.  Unpack the OS2IGC program using PKUNZIP or UNZIP.
  56. 4.  Install OS2IGC by typing the command "install".
  57. 5.  Close the OS/2 command prompt.
  58.  
  59. The OS2IGC installation program copies the OS2IGC.DLL file to
  60. the \OS2\DLL directory on your boot drive and copies the
  61. OS2IGC.HLP file to the \OS2\HELP directory on your boot drive.
  62. It then registers its Workplace Shell object classes.
  63.  
  64. If you are reinstalling OS2IGC (or installing a new version), the
  65. installation program has to restart the Workplace Shell in order
  66. for the changed program to become active.  It displays a
  67. message indicating that it is restarting the Workplace Shell.
  68. You will then see the Desktop close (DON'T PANIC!) and a few
  69. seconds later the Desktop will reopen.  When the Desktop is back
  70. to its normal state, press Enter to allow the OS2IGC installation
  71. program to comlete the installation process.

  74. Creating An OS2IGC Object:
  75. --------------------------

  77. When OS2IGC is installed, it places a template object named
  78. "IGS Client" into your Templates folder.  To create a working
  79. copy of the OS2IGC object:
  80.  
  81. 1.  Open the Templates folder.
  82. 2.  Move the mouse pointer over the IGS Client template object.
  83. 3.  Press and hold mouse button 2 while dragging a copy of the
  84.     template to the Desktop or to any other folder.  For example,
  85.     I put my working copy of the IGS Client object into my
  86.     "IBM Internet Connection For OS/2" folder.
  87.  
  88. You can create multiple working OS2IGC objects by repeating this
  89. procedure.  For example, you might have different OS2IGC objects
  90. representing different login IDs on the IGS.  Or you might
  91. have different OS2IGC objects for different Go servers (like
  92. the No Name Go Server).

  94. You can change the name of the working OS2IGC objects to be whatever
  95. you want.
  96.  
  97. The working OS2IGC objects are customized to automaticaly connect
  98. to the Internet Go Server at igs.nuri.net 6969.  If you want to
  99. connect to a different server, or use an alternate port address,
  100. you have to change this customization.

  103. Customizing The OS2IGC Object:
  104. ------------------------------
  105.  
  106. 1.  Open the Settings View for the OS2IGC object by moving the mouse
  107.     pointer over the OS2IGC icon, pressing mouse button 2, and
  108.     selecting the "Settings" item in the pop-up menu.
  109. 2.  You may change the name and port address of the Go Server
  110.     on the Server page.
  111. 3.  If you are connecting to the Go Server through a firewall and
  112.     must pass through a Socks Server to get to the Internet, you
  113.     may also specify the name of the Socks Server on the Server page.
  114.     Note:  This must be the name of the Server.  OS2IGC doesn't
  115.     understand IP addresses.
  116. 4.  If you have a login ID on the Go Server, you may specify your
  117.     login ID and password on the User page.

  120. Using The OS2IGC Object:
  121. ------------------------

  123. 1.  Connect to the Internet.
  124. 2.  Open the Terminal View of the OS2IGC Object by double-clicking on
  125.     the OS2IGC icon.
  126.  
  127. You should now be connected to the Go Server.
  128.  
  129. You may get help information for the OS2IGC object at any time by
  130. pressing the F1 key while any view of the OS2IGC object has the focus.
  131. Also, you may get help information by moving the mouse pointer over
  132. the OS2IGC object or the icon in the title bar of an open view,
  133. pressing mouse button 2 to obtain the pop-up menu, and selecting the
  134. "Help" item from the pop-up menu.  You can also get special help
  135. information for selected topics by selecting the arrow to the right
  136. of the "Help" item, then selecting one of the topics.

  138. For most dialog boxes, you can get help information for that dialog
  139. by pressing the "Help" push button.  This doesn't currently work
  140. for the message boxes dislayed by OS2IGC.

  143. Removing The Program:
  144. ---------------------

  146. If you want to remove the OS2IGC program from your system:
  147.  
  148. 1.  Delete all working OS2IGC objects.
  149. 2.  Open an OS/2 windowed or full-screen command prompt.
  150. 4.  Make the directory containing the unpacked OS2IGC files the
  151.     the current directory.
  152. 5.  Uninstall OS2IGC by typing the command "uninst".
  153. 6.  Close the OS/2 command prompt.

  156. Registering The Program:
  157. ------------------------
  158.  
  159. This beta test version of the OS/2 IGS Client Program is distributed
  160. free of charge to anyone who wants it.
  161.  
  162. I would like to maintain a list of all users of the program to be
  163. able to notify them of any future versions of the program.  Please
  164. send me an e-mail message at "iras@bocaraton.ibm.com" and include
  165. your name and e-mail address so I know you are using the program.

  167. Also, if you have any comments about the program (good, bad, or
  168. indifferent), find any bugs, have any suggestions about how to
  169. improve the existing functions, or have any suggestions about
  170. what other functions are needed (I know there are a lot!), please
  171. send me an e-mail message.  I will be working on the program in
  172. my non-existant spare time.
